Are caffeinated drinks the right beverages for your health?



In today's lifestyle many people are affected by  several chronic and lifestyle related ailments like Diabetes, stroke, dementia, obesity, cancer,heart disease and thinning bones.
You may be surprised to know that all these chronic diseases are more often than not linked to the type of beverages that we drink or don't drink.


A lot of beverages popular among the youth and old alike are contributors to increasing waistline and weight problems.

Multiple panel of experts have rated the common drinks and beverages of our daily use as per their benefits.

Water 

It is not surprising that water tops the lists because besides the enormous amount of benefits that water offers, water is the only drink which doesn't have any calories or any kind of health hazards associated with it. we should try to drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday.it helps to keep the body hydrated and essentials for proper body functions.


Sweetened/aerated drinks 

In recent times there has been huge increase in the daily intake of sugar added beverages thanks to the targeted marketing by multinational companies.  A large percentage of the daily amount of calorie intake comes from these sugar filled drinks. Most of us don't realize that most of these drinks are doing nothing but heaping loads of unwanted calories. In addition to this these sweetened drinks are contributors to a plethora of health issues. Carbonated drinks are harmful to our teeth and many studies have linked consumption of cola to thinning of hip bones.


Coffee Tea and Caffeine

If taken in limited quantities, coffee consumption is found to be beneficial, it reduces the risk to type 2 diabetes. Upto 400 milligrams of caffeine does not create any kind of health problems. That is upto 4 cups. Pregnant women should however, take doctor's advice on caffeine consumption, as higher amounts can raise the chances of low birth weight.

Tea, on the other hand, may help prevent the growth of kidney stones and lowers the risk of cancer. Green tea is very beneficial for health. There is a scope of a whole article dedicated for green tea! Black tea helps in expansion of arteries, and hence results in improved blood circulation.


Dairy and Soy drinks

Milk is a very good drink and contains essential nutrients like calcium and proteins. Regular consumption is good for bone density. It also contains some more essential nutrients which are required by the body like vitamin A, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, riboflavin and proteins.

Studies have found that people having regular milk consumption are less prone to developing metabolic syndrome. 

Soy milk is also a good alternative for don't who don't prefer cow/buffalo milk.



Alcohol

A little of alcohol may be okay, a lot - definitely not! Moderate consumption of alcohol is even linked to many health benefits like regulation of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and reduced risk of gallstones. But in conditions like pregnancy, it should be avoided even in moderate amounts. Unregulated consumption of alcohol is harmful for the human body especially for the liver, which has to work extra hard to digest it.
