Health benefits of Flaxseeds


Flaxseed emerges as a miraculous super food. Various researches have been done on flaxseed. They have various health benefits.
Health benefits
  1. The first one is it is rich in omega 3 fatty acid content. The primary omega 3 fatty acid is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). It is stable at oven temperature. That's why flaxseeds are added in the bakery products. The ALA can be helpful in cardiovascular system. They also control the blood vessels from inflammatory damage.
  2. The second feature is that it contains lignans. Lignans are fiber like products. They also give antioxidants protection because its structure is similar to polyphenols. Among all the foods eaten by humans the flaxseed contain the high proportion of lignans.
  3. The third unique feature is its mucilaginous gum. This mucilage is water soluble and gel forming fiber that supports the intestinal tract and help in digestion.
Intake of flaxseed has also been shown to:
  • Decreases LDL-HDL ratio cholesterol
  • Regulates the blood pressure
  • Boost the immune system
  • It keeps our kidney and eyes healthy

Nowadays flaxseed is incorporated with various bakery products like bread, biscuits and muffins. Similarly in dairy products, flaxseed powder is also incorporated in the buttermilk, yogurt, whey etc.
